Camping and glamour are not concepts that always go together, but with the right equipment, these two worlds can be brought together beautifully.

When it comes to the right equipment for camping, 4x4 accessories, and the great outdoors, no one needs to think any further than Ironman 4X4.

This renowned brand has provided top-quality products since its inception in 1982, when the original Australian company first began making pioneering shock absorbers for the burgeoning 4X4 market.

Since then, Ironman 4X4 has brought their leading-edge fitments and motoring accessories to the Namibian bushveld, thanks to local retailer Accessory Fitment Centre (AFC), which has been part of the Pupkewitz Group for the past ten years.

Wide range of goods

In pursuit of glamping inspiration, the People’s Passenger Princess, My.Na Cars’ very own Diana Master, visited the store and had a chat with Christoffel Moolman, AFC's sales supervisor.

In 2018, AFC was appointed platinum dealer for Ironman 4x4, and today they offer a wide range of brand products at their one-stop-shop, where you can also have your new Ironman 4X4 winch installed, fit that grimacing new bumper, or upgrade to that ostentatious suspension that lifts your automobile head and shoulders above the rest.

AFC also offers the possibility of getting your order financed thanks to their cooperation with Nedbank, which allows 36-month loans on vehicle accessories.

Moolman explained that Ironman 4x4 brings both hardware and lifestyle goodies to customers, including essentials like camping lights, camping chairs, and sleeping bags.

Sleep in style

A choice of rooftop tents includes the Swift 1400 clamshell design, which can pop up on demand by simply being hinged open in one quick manoeuvre.

For those who prefer to lie down on the ground, the Ironman 4X4 Swags are a range of tents based on either ridge pole designs or dome swags.

The ridge pole swags simplify set-up and pack-up with their two-hoop concept and tensioning centre ridge pole. All Ironman 4X4 tents are made from durable Ripstop cotton, and the dome swags allow occupants to fall asleep watching the stars and close off the outside world completely, thanks to the built-in insect mesh protection layer.

Another option in-store is the front-runner pop-up tents, big enough to sleep two people but effortlessly pitched because these tents pitch themselves, able to fold flat and unfold by themselves as the need arises.

Master smiled from ear to ear when she heard her tent could prepare itself, and later she could not resist taking a little shut-eye in one of the tents on the shop floor.

Connected to the wild

Recently, the AFC team embarked on an excursion through the Kunene Region's Kaokoland and some wild camping next to the Ugab River.

Moolman said this provided the perfect opportunity to show off the recently arrived EcoFlow portable power units on stock. With the Delta 2 variants, you can charge just about any portable device on location, using the 1 800W output to power your camera, your cellphone, or even your electric kettle.

Apart from USB and charger ports, the gadget provides three- and two-point power outlets and a 12V port to plug in whatever you need powered on your outing.

Recharging up to 80% in less than an hour, your EcoFlow is ready by departure time, and the smaller River 2 version is already at home among Desert Dash enthusiasts who need camping lights to stay lit, he said.

Something for everyone

Other equipment available from AFC includes chrome roll bars, nudge bars, and styling bars; window laminate for tinting and rubberising; front runner roof racks; and D.A.G. outdoor refrigeration solutions to complement the in-house Ironman 4X4 range of fridges.

Moolman said: "Come visit the shop. We have many products and accessories available. We have something for everyone to make the experience (of camping) fun."

According to him, the company is busy these days "thanks to the tourists and the rental spike. These days we are working with bookings, and especially for fitment, it is good to book in advance."

Moolman highlighted that there are various special deals on offer this month.

Check them out at 7837 Julius Nyerere Street in Windhoek’s Southern Industrial area, or browse through their pictures on Facebook at Ironman4x4 Namibia.
