Mitsubishi unveils the All-New Triton in Namibia

Mitsubishi Motors has officially launched the latest generation of its Triton bakkie, promising improved performance, enhanced technology, and a refined driving experience. The much-anticipated model was introduced nearly 18 months after initial announcements, and André Van der Merwe, Sales Manager of Mitsubishi could hardly contain his excitement as he unveiled the new Triton to Namibian audiences. “The wait has been long, but I can assure you it has been worth it,” he said. “This is an all-new vehicle from the ground up new chassis, wider suspension, and improved design language.”Striking exterior upgradesThe latest Triton has undergone a complete design transformation. Featuring Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield Design, the vehicle’s exterior is both aggressive and modern. The new, advanced LED headlight technology and redesigned side mirrors provide a fresh and robust appearance. Additionally, the rear wheel has been moved back by 15 cm, and the cargo bin has been widened, making it more practical for commercial and leisure use. “One of the most exciting changes is that the bin is now almost square, making it easier for canopy suppliers and load carriers to install additional accessories,” Van der Merwe explained. The Triton also boasts an impressive payload capacity of one tone and a towing capability of up to 3,500 kg, ensuring it remains a strong competitor in the local market.Interior comfort and technologyStepping inside, the new Triton reveals a significantly upgraded interior. The dashboard has been widened, creating a more spacious cabin, and Mitsubishi has incorporated soft-touch materials and refined stitching to elevate the premium feel. “The interior is elegant yet retains the toughness expected from a bakkie. Features like dual-zone climate control, a touchscreen infotainment system, and wireless charging ensure a modern driving experience,” Van der Merwe said. Mitsubishi has also retained the manual handbrake, a design choice made to enhance reliability in off-road conditions. An electronic handbrake might malfunction in heavy dust and gravel conditions, so this is a practical decision for 4x4 enthusiasts.Driving experience and performanceTaking the Triton for a test drive, the ride quality proved to be a major highlight. The new suspension system, with only three leaf springs per side, provides a smooth ride, closely resembling a coil spring setup. The refined cabin ensures minimal road and engine noise, making long drives more comfortable. “This is one of the quietest and most comfortable bakkies in its segment,” Van der Merwe noted. “Many customers even questioned whether this is a diesel engine because of how refined and smooth it is.” The new Triton is powered by a 2.4-litre turbo diesel engine, delivering 135 kW of power and 430 Nm of torque. Despite the modest displacement, Mitsubishi engineers have optimised the engine to offer a power-to-weight ratio that rivals larger competitors. The fuel consumption is equally impressive, with the manual variant averaging 7.7 L/100 km and the automatic consuming 8.3 L/100 km under standard driving conditions.Proven Award-Winning PerformanceThe Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton is no stranger to the winner’s circle.
