United Property Management expands portfolio with student accommodation

In a recent interview with Lesley David, the property and leasing manager of United Property Management, key insights were shared regarding the company's diverse real estate activities and its strategic focus on property management and leasing.

United Property Management, a subsidiary of the United Africa Group, has been a prominent player in the Namibian real estate market since its establishment in 1992.

David highlighted the company's primary emphasis on commercial properties, particularly in the central business district (CBD) of Windhoek, where they manage a substantial portfolio of office spaces. Notably, the iconic old FNB building, encompassing approximately 8 000 square metres, stands as one of their significant commercial spaces, catering to businesses of various sizes.

When asked about the significance of property within the broader United Africa Group, David explained: "We have properties all over Namibia, but mostly located in Windhoek - in the CBD. So, our main focus area is commercial".

She emphasised their commitment to providing rental office spaces to both private and public enterprises, showcasing the company's dedication to fostering a thriving business environment.



New development

David expressed enthusiasm for the interpersonal aspects of her role, noting: "My favourite aspect of property is the fact that I get to meet a lot of people from various backgrounds, both local and international". She further described concluding deals and facilitating the transition of property ownership as exciting.

In terms of new developments, David disclosed the company's recent venture into student accommodation with the establishment of Namibia Student Accommodation, strategically located a short distance from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). The facility, capable of housing around 370 students, is the first of its kind for United Property Management. Additionally, they are in the final stages of completing a second student accommodation property in the CBD.

David shed light on the accommodation options: "The price ranges depends on the type of room. We have single, double, triple and quad rooms, depending on how many students will be housed. Our cheapest room is N$2 200 and this is inclusive of free Wi-Fi, water and electricity."

She further noted the provision of laundry facilities on-site and the inclusion of a student hub for recreational activities, contributing to a holistic living experience for students.
