A night fill with sweetness

Rijama Mbinge
For every high school learner, the matric farewell is a dream, a milestone that marks the culmination of their school years. On the warm evening of Friday, 6 September, this dream became a reality for the learners of JG van der Wath Secondary School. The highly anticipated event - themed 'mafia masquerade' - was nothing short of spectacular, with each learner elegantly dressed, their presence graced by the fragrance of anticipation and excitement.

The evening began at the school hall, where learners gathered in their finest attire. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as everyone waited for the grand departure. Once the photographs were taken and memories captured, they set off in a convoy of luxury cars to the farewell venue a mere 15-minute drive away - the stunning Von Bach Dam Resort.

Upon arrival, the learners were greeted with a venue perfectly suited for the occasion. The resort’s elegance, paired with its delectable cuisine, set the tone for a night of celebration. Laughter filled the air as the learners enjoyed a variety of fancy dishes, followed by a night of dancing under the stars.

As the night progressed, the excitement grew. The highlight of the evening was soon upon them the announcement of the Prom King and Queen. In a moment of suspense, the prestigious crown went to a grade 11 learner, a testament to their popularity and charm. The Prom Queen dazzled in a sparkling yellow gown, while the Prom King looked regal in a tailored navy blue suit.

This was more than just an evening of celebration; it was a symbol of resilience, perseverance and hard work. For these learners, it was a night to remember a magical moment etched into their hearts forever, marking the end of an era and the beginning of new adventures. Your matric farewell, after all, only comes once in a lifetime.
