Headspring Investments, in partnership with the Namibia Institute of Mining Technology (NIMT) and K Neumayer Civil Contractors, provided 20 young people from Leonardville with technical training and job attachments, equipping them with valuable skills for their future careers.

In 2024, Headspring Investments fully funded a six-month special training programme at NIMT for the 20 selected trainees. The programme offered technical training in various fields, including carpentry, fitting, boilermaking/welding and plumbing. This allowed the participants to choose their area of interest.

Following the successful completion of their training, 16 of the 20 trainees secured job attachments for the next six months at K Neumayer Civil Contractors in Swakopmund, where they will gain hands-on experience in their respective fields.

Headspring Investments' director, Kirill Egorov-Kirillov, emphasised the company’s commitment to empowering local communities, despite challenges the company has faced in continuing its mining project.

K Neumayer Civil Contractors, which has welcomed the trainees for job attachments, believes in investing in skilled workers.

“Our company has always been open to trainees so that we can help to upskill workers,” said Bokkie Thorburn. “The higher a technician is qualified, the better his financial future, and he/she is then able to support a family.”

NIMT Director, Ralph Bussel, also highlighted the importance of such initiatives. “We are proud of our track record of producing excellent technicians and laying the foundation for young people’s careers.”

For the trainees, this opportunity represents the start of a promising future. “To come from a small village like Leonardville and be exposed to so many new things and to learn is really exciting,” said Maria Afrikaner, one of the trainees. “We cannot thank Headspring Investments, NIMT, and K Neumayer Civil Contractors enough for the doors they have opened for us.”

With new skills and real-world experience, the young artisans are now well-equipped to build successful careers in their chosen fields.
