Honouring Dr Sam Nujoma
On 26 February 2025, the Maurits Devenish Private School community gathered for a poignant memorial service honouring the late founding father of Namibia, Dr Sam Nujoma.
The ceremony commenced with a scripture reading and prayer led by Rev Colette, followed by a welcoming speech from Mr Brand, the school’s manager.
As the event unfolded, attendees observed a moment of silence for Dr Nujoma before coming together to sing the National Anthem - a heartwarming experience.
Learners shared their tributes through poetry and song, many highlighting Dr Nujoma's vision for a free and independent Namibia.
The junior primary phase also contributed by showcasing representations of the esteemed leader's name and presenting readings about his life and leadership. A particularly touching moment occurred when a primary learner led the entire school in singing "This Little Light of Mine".
One of the most poignant statements was made by Chiedza, a grade 9 learner who expressed, "Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts!"
