NUST’s ETNCC 2024 draws over 200 international participants
Including Namibia in the global conversation
NUST hosted the International Conference on Emerging Trends in Networks and Computer Communications to discuss new trends and technological advancements.
The fourth consecutive International Conference on Emerging Trends in Networks and Computer Communications (ETNCC) took place in Windhoek recently.
The conference aimed to cover a range of research in high-performance computing and emerging trends in computer communications.
It was hosted at the University of Science and Technology (NUST) by the Unesco Chair on Secure High-Performance Computing for Higher Education and Research and NUST’s Faculty of Computing and Informatics.
This event took place from 23 to 25 July and offered attendees the chance to join in person or virtually.
Over 200 people from 23 different countries participated in the event, which was co-sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) South Africa Section and backed by IEEE Region 8.
The development and improvements of technology solutions to designing wired and wireless networks, high-performance computing, smart communication and networking, vehicle communication, the internet of things, artificial intelligence, edge computing, the blockchain, and cybersecurity were discussed.
More than 300 academic papers were submitted, but only 129 of these were accepted after a peer-review process to ensure their validity and reliability. These papers are used in the technical programmes.
Expert contributions
A specialised workshop titled 'High Performance Computing for Coastal Modelling' was featured in addition to the main conference. Experts within the field looked into the application of high-performance computing and nanotechnology to better map and simulate changes to coastal environments for environmental protection and industrial expansion.
A highlight of the conference was the distinguished speaker session, featuring contributors from Singapore, Malaysia, South Africa and India who spoke about the latest trends and challenges in network and computer communications.
The 2024 ETNCC Conference was a landmark event that showcased NUST's commitment to research and innovation. It further aimed to include Namibia in global scientific communications and advancements.
