Old Mutual Youth Indaba to Address Education and Skills Gap

Iris Shimhanda
The Old Mutual Foundation hosts the second annual Youth Indaba on Friday (14 March 2025), at the One Economy Foundation's #BeFree Youth Campus.

Under the theme "Closing the Gap Between Education and Skills Development", the event seeks to tackle Namibia's youth unemployment crisis by equipping young people with practical career skills.

The chairperson of the Old Mutual Foundation, Patricia Olivier, stated that the disconnect between academic qualifications and industry requirements has left many young Namibians struggling to secure employment. “This Indaba is a platform for action, ensuring that young professionals gain the skills necessary to equip them in an evolving job market,” she said.

The programme includes a panel discussion on Shaping the Future Through Skills and Innovation, featuring industry experts who will examine workforce adaptability and the impact of digital transformation. Other sessions will focus on agricultural innovation, financial education, career pathways, and mental health in the workplace.

Speakers include economist Salomo Hei, HR specialist Majory Mukasa, and psychologist Dr Mara Mberira.

Exhibitors such as Basecamp Business Incubator, Agra ProVision, Ogilvy Namibia, the Namibia University of Science and Technology, One Economy Foundation, and Platonic Academy will offer career guidance, networking opportunities and mentorship.
