The weekend of 16 September marks the start of a new venture by Windhoek Gymnasium – the Windhoek Gymnasium Youth Cultural Festival, to which all schools in the country are invited to participate.

The festival will showcase the talents of learners through choir performances, small drama groups, monologues, musical renditions, and dancing.

According to school representative Thea Loubser, the festival is aimed at exposing learners to various opportunities. "The festival is aimed at learners to showcase their talent," Loubser said.

The school intends to mark this event on their calendar every year.

The schools participating this year include Windhoek Afrikaans Private School, which will present three individual items. Walvis Bay Private School will send their choir to participate, and Private School Swakopmund will perform an extract from 'The Greatest Showman'.

Audiences can expect performances from the three choirs at Windhoek Gymnasium. Additionally, there will be a performance by 16 learners from the primary school. They will be showcasing their act, titled 'Pluk vir my 'n Reënboog,' which has earned them a spot in the Curro Create National Youth Festival finals in South Africa.

Marelee Ferreira, who secured second place in the Curro Create #Straight2Camera Monologue Festival in the Stars Category, will also be showcasing her talents. Furthermore, Sebastian Burger, who ranked in the top five in the same competition in the Rising Stars category, will be showcasing his talents as well.

Christo Burger, the choir conductor from the renowned Akustika Choir, will be present to offer valuable advice to the attending choirs on improving their performances. Akustika has an impressive record, boasting five gold medals from the World Choir Games and the title of champion in the 'Musica Sacra Acapella' category at the 2018 World Choir Games. The choir has also earned numerous other awards and accolades.
