My name is Divanis Frederik. I am a teacher at Catalyst Private School and also the head of department of languages.1. When did your journey start as a teacher?My journey as a teacher started in 2014.
2. Which subjects and grades do you teach?I teach Afrikaans second language grade 8 to 12 at AS level.3. Was teaching always something you wanted to do? Yes, teaching was always something that I wanted to do.4. What is the most challenging thing about being a teacher?Understanding the different learning challenges amongst learners, being encouraging and motivating under challenging circumstances, and disciplining students from different backgrounds.5. What do you love about your profession? Teaching. Seeing my learners think and have amazing ideas and perspectives, and watching them learn and grow.6. What would you be if you didn’t become a teacher?A professional chef because I love cooking.7. What keeps you motivated and inspired to keep teaching?My learners keep me going no matter what the circumstances are.8. What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Listening to music and composing songs since I am also a vocal coach.9. What is the greatest thing you have ever achieved?My greatest success in teaching is in my growth as an instructor, which, to me, is because of each and every student I’ve had the honour of instructing. In the course of teaching, my students have challenged me to know my subject like the back of my hand.10. Do you have any motivation for prospective teachers?Teachers encourage minds to think, hands to create, and hearts to love.
