Unlocking agricultural potential
The Agra Provision Agricultural Academy held its graduation last week, with students graduating in various courses.
The Agra Provision Agricultural Academy held its graduation ceremony at the Agra Ring in the capital last week.
The 18 participants in the 2025 cohort graduated in various courses including pig management and cattle production - also accredited by the NQA.
Speaking at the graduation, Agra senior manager Chriselemien Stroh shared inspirational words with the graduates, adding that their "studies do not end here. Continue to study and grasp every opportunity you can."
Furthermore, financial institutions like Nedbank provided bursaries to assist students to pay for the studies which are also created to be as affordable as possible. Some courses can be as quick as two days, with the first day covering theory while the second day is dedicated to practicals. Others continue for up to a year, senior technical adviser Christo Brisley said.
According to one of the graduates, Vahokoraije Rupingena, it is not the end of the world when UNAM or NUST does not accept your application. "You may also have a peek into other sectors such as the agriculture sector. Become an independent farmer and build on the food security in our country."
The Agra Provision Agricultural Academy offers various courses such as Capacity Development, Basic Farm Management, Poultry Management, Livestock Management, Pig Management and Sustainable Resource Utilisation Horticulture.
In addition, all of these courses are offered online with a duration of two days to a maximum of a year to gain a qualification in the form of a diploma, Brisley said.
All you need is your Grade 10 results with subjects such as languages and mathematics and you can follow any one of these courses from the comfort of your home and according to your schedule.
According to the academy's general manager Griffort Beukes, “These courses will give you the benefit of having a master management plan for your farm in place”.
He added that it is a fantastic foundation from which to build a successful business. “Participants can start their journey with a business plan to ensure all predictable factors are catered for and are thoroughly thought through.”
Included in the courses are some marketing aspects of the farming enterprise, as well as options on how to maximise profits.
Furthermore, it serves as an excellent basis for all the other training courses provided by Agra Provision, which cover individual topics related to farming in more specific detail.
