The MyZone team asked university students how they are preparing for exams.

They say the best way to predict your future is to create it. But at times, when stress builds up, remember your brain retains more information than you think. Your efforts will be worth it.

Selma Paulus

If you fail to prepare, you're preparing for failure. Prepare ahead of time. Cramming just before exams never worked for anyone.

Familiarise yourself with the structure, duration and marking scheme of the exam. This will help you plan your study time and allocate appropriate time for each section. Prioritise your physical and mental well-being during exam preparation. Get adequate sleep, eat nutritious meals and exercise regularly. Taking care of yourself helps maintain a clear and focused mind. And lastly, stay positive and motivated, maintain a positive mindset and believe in your abilities.

I started studying earlier because the notes are a lot, like a lot! The professor gave us the exam scope on Wednesday too, but still the content covers everything. So right now, I'm like focusing on things I think are essential. The fact that I'm writing on the 24th means I only have one full day to study for the other module, but yeah - I think studying until late will work.

So, the thing is, I balance between completing what I'm behind on, such as assignments, and studying for tests so as to get it out of the way. It's a lot of pressure, yes, but it is not something I can avoid as I need good continuous assessment (CA) marks to qualify for exams. When the timetable is released, I set up my own personal study timetable to make sure I cover the time I lost from completing assignments and concentrate on wrapping up for the exams with sleepless nights. It always pays off. I work best under pressure too.
