Wendy Naruses took up her role as the newly appointed marketing and communications manager for distribution at Sanlam Namibia at the start of March.

With more than 12 years of experience in the marketing, public relations and events industries while specialising in the insurance and banking sections, Naruses is optimistic and aims to make a difference at Sanlam Namibia.

Naruses is embracing her new job, with a primary goal to penetrate the market using product campaigns and partner with businesses to ensure the outcome is profitable.

She said it is her responsibility to create 360-degree integrated marketing and communication strategies to deliver a consistent message across all touch points.

"It will be imperative for me to create powerful strategies that combine all above- and below-the-line initiatives to accomplish the business objective," she said.

Positive thinking

Her wealth of experience stems from her first full-time employment at Trustco Group as a media assistant.

Over time, she was promoted to events coordinator and later became an account executive at Trustco Bank.

After five years, she moved to First National Bank (FNB) as a marketing officer for consumer banking, where she worked for four years. Next, she was appointed as a consultant for retail mass and affluent services at Old Mutual Namibia.

Getting the call from Sanlam was something she expected, saying: "I believe in the power of affirmations and being intentional about your journey to greatness. I was so positive and hopeful for a call back after my interview. The night before my interview, I informed my family about how excited I was to meet my new colleagues."

Opportunities beckon

Naruses has obtained qualifications in public relations from the University of Namibia and a qualification in marketing from the University of Cape Town.

Looking ahead, Naruses said she looks forward to making an impact as a creative.

"I always strive for innovative thinking, edgy marketing concepts, and just creating the difference while offering unique experiences to our clients. With Sanlam, it will be possible; I mean, the sky is blue, hence so many opportunities," she said.
