Amakali settling well into new role
Climbing the ranks at Bank Windhoek
Gideon Amakali's career began at PwC Namibia as an audit trainee, where he later qualified as a chartered accountant.
Gideon Amakali is a qualified Namibian chartered accountant with over seven years of management experience in various industries. He was appointed as Bank Windhoek’s head of management accounting, effective 1 June.
Amakali began his Bank Windhoek journey in November 2022 as the bank’s revenue assurance manager, where he handled product pricing, revenue collection and billing before being appointed to his current position.
Before taking on his new role, he observed diverse opportunities in this position and hoped to further his professional growth and gain direct exposure from a rich and experienced network.
Amakali’s qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in chartered accountancy from the University of Namibia (Unam) and an honours degree from North-West University in Potchefstroom, South Africa.
His career began at PwC Namibia as an audit trainee, where he later qualified as a chartered accountant. He then moved to Scotland in October 2020 and worked as the assistant manager at PwC’s Aberdeen office for over two years.
Amakali obtained his oil and gas finance specialisation in Scotland, a blended portfolio focused on financial services. He worked with aerospace clientele in oil and gas assurance and deals consulting.
Achieving excellence
Bank Windhoek’s chief financial officer Zenaune Kamberipa welcomed Amakali, saying: “With his valuable experience in various industries, we are confident that Amakali will add further significant value to his new role and Bank Windhoek’s finance department".
Kamberipa added that in his new role, Amakali will manage and control the management accounting processes within Bank Windhoek. “The position also involves extracting and assessing data, identifying interdependencies and relationships in the data, and reporting relevant financial information to inform decision-making.”
In the long term, Amakali said he would like to achieve excellence in financial leadership and contribute significantly to the strategic direction and success of Bank Windhoek. He added that he believes in pursuing progressive career opportunities. “Everything you do in your daily
work life should be a step on the ladder to prepare you for the next, better position, once the opportunity arises,” he said.
He advised that optimism is essential in gaining and appreciating opportunities. “Never stop learning. Stay updated by following the latest industry news, trends and advancements. Networking is key, and remember to create a personal brand."
