Continuously evolving with Namfisa
Vast knowledge in anti-money laundering
In December 2021, Sandi Isaacs was appointed as a legal advisor in the legal services division at the Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (Namfisa), two years after she first joined the authority.
Isaacs graduated from the University of Namibia (Unam) with Baccalaureus Juris (B.Juris) and Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degrees obtained in 2008 and 2010 respectively. “In 2017, I completed my Masters in Law (LLM) degree at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa in collaboration with Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany.”
Isaacs was admitted as a legal practitioner of the High Court of Namibia in 2011. “I have over ten years experience in legal advisory and related services including civil litigation and legal advice.”
She also has vast experience in the anti-money laundering, combating the financing of terrorism and combating proliferation financing (AML/CFT/CPF) fields, including financial investigation and AML/CFT/CPF regulation and supervision.
She started with formal legal employment at the ministry of justice’s directorate of civil litigation- government attorneys. During this time, she was also briefly attached to the asset forfeiture unit in the prosecutor general’s office.
Later, Isaac transferred to the department of police within the ministry of safety and security, where she served in various capacities including the head of the legal services division and the head of anti-money laundering and combting the financing of terrorirsm division.
“I joined Namfisa in 2019, as a compliance officer in the anti-money laundering and inspections department.”
Self care
In 2020, she was appointed as the legal officer for the market conduct division and at the end of 2021, she was appointed as a legal advisor in the legal services division.
Isaacs says Namfisa has always been reputed as an employer of choice and is known as an institution that is not only passionate about its mandate but also passionate about its people. “Three years in and I can attest that this is true indeed.” She adds that Namfisa is genuinely driven toward service excellence and is continuously evolving to meet the regulatory and supervisory demands of its industry.
“It is an organisation rich in specialist knowledge and skills – you learn something new every day. I am very grateful to be part of this dynamic team.”
When she is not at work, Isaacs enjoys spending time with family and friends. She has a two-year-old toddler to whom she dedicates most of her free time. “Watching her grow and explore the world is the most delightful part of every day.”
This year she decided to prioritise self-care.
“I am consciously making more time for my physical, mental and spiritual wellness by reading a book, taking a walk or even taking a nap.”
