Driving digital transformation, communication excellence at MTC
Handling a myriad of communication tasks
Shipanga manages event organising and oversees projects under the digital transformation department
Elise Shipanga, a communication intern at Mobile Telecommunication Company (MTC), has been making waves in the organisation for over a year.
Her role is a whirlwind of collaboration, creativity and strategic oversight, particularly within the digital transformation department.
Shipanga's knack for stakeholder engagement and seamless coordination across departments ensures that events are flawlessly executed and projects run smoothly.
From crafting media releases to managing the company's website, Shipanga handles a myriad of communication tasks with finesse, proving herself an invaluable asset to MTC.
Background
Shipanga holds a degree in communications from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST).
Her interest in corporate communications developed during her studies, particularly through courses like public relations, public speaking and non-verbal communications.
"One of my assignments in management communication involved researching an organisation’s communication skills, and I chose MTC. Little did I know, I would end up working in the telecommunications sector," Shipanga said.
Winding down
Outside of work, Shipanga said she enjoys activities that help her relax and recharge.
"I am a bit of a history geek, and I love reading and exploring different genres and authors. Hiking allows me to connect with nature and stay physically active, while painting offers me a creative outlet," she said.
"I also spend time on my family farm, tending to plants and enjoying the outdoors," she added.
Transformation
According to Shipanga, since she started in the industry, she has witnessed serious changes.
"One of the most notable is the rollout of 5G technology, which is set to revolutionise mobile communication with faster speeds and lower latency in our country. There’s also been a rise in the Internet of Things (IoT), expanding the scope of telecommunications," she noted.
Inspiration
A quote that inspires Shipanga is by Peter Drucker: "The best way to predict the future is to create it."
She explained that the quote motivates her to be proactive and take initiative in both her personal and professional lives.
Shipanga sets clear boundaries between work and personal time, prioritises tasks, and ensures she has time for activities she enjoys.
"Staying organised and maintaining a structured routine play a crucial role in managing my responsibilities without feeling overwhelmed," she explained.
For Shipanga, the most rewarding aspect of working in telecommunications is the opportunity to make an impact on people's lives.
"Being part of a sector that connects individuals and businesses globally gives me a sense of purpose and fulfillment. The continuous advancements in technology provide constant learning opportunities and keep my work engaging and challenging," she said.
