From tech geek to graphic design pro
Second-year computer student runs graphic design studio
Over the past five years, Jason Ameya, the founder and sole designer of Premium Star Graphics, has honed his design skills to meet the needs of his growing base of clients.
Premium Star Graphics is one of Namibia’s up-and-coming creative agencies, specialising in graphic and web design.
It aims to create stunning visuals for its clients, ensuring they capture their audiences’ attention.
Jason Ameya, the sole owner and founder of Premium Star Graphics, has been in the design industry for five years, consequently accumulating ample time to harness and refine his graphic design expertise.
He said that this longevity has granted him powerful skills that allow him to know what his clients’ brands need when capturing their next client’s attention. Ameya also gets professional knowledge from class, as he is a second-year computer science student at the Namibia University of Science and Technology.
Jack of all trades
As the only manager, graphic designer, and web designer, Ameya does it all.
He uses social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn as his biggest marketing channel to promote Premium Star Graphics' mandate.
He also frequently attends networking events to help market his business portfolio to potential clients. "I plan on expanding, employing more people, and growing into one of Namibia's biggest creative agencies," he said.
Debut
Growing up in the small town of Rosh Pinah, where there was little to do after school, Ameya spent much of his time on computers.
He became a tech geek, proficient at computers.
Ameya’s love and motivation for graphic design began back in high school. He was first introduced to it when they were given an entrepreneurial school project where they had to come up with an advertising poster. Being known as the "tech guy", he was enticed into designing the poster, which, to his teacher’s surprise, was brilliant.
She later paid him to do another for her business. And the rest is history.
Clientele
Ameya’s audiences are any businesses or individuals who may need a logo, flyer, website, brand identity, or any graphic or web-related services.
He has provided his services to Namibia’s well-known influencers and establishments like Agogo Skuza, Feelingz Nation, Funky Lab Windhoek, The Basement, Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), and many more. They have helped push his work into the world.
Perks
"Graphic design helped me become independent; especially given that I am merely a student. It enabled me to make something for myself and not depend on my parents for basic needs. It also gave me the freedom to get myself some nice things here and there when I wanted to," he said.
He added that graphic design is a fun career, and offers many opportunities to be creative and to meet "wonderful and influential people."
