Vincent Taylor matriculated in 1983 in South Africa. After studying psychology and sociology, he began working at Metro Cash and Carry in 1985 in Namibia.
“I first started as the brands manager to the national training manager. Thereafter, I went to the regional admin manager to human resources (HR) manager and then to HR executive, which is my current position,” Taylor mentioned.
“Some of my responsibilities as an HR executive are managing the company’s recruiting, learning and development and employee performance programmes; creating referral programmes, updating HR policies and overseeing our hiring processes.”
“Developing our employees is one of my duties. This means job training them on our different systems within the company, enhancing soft skills so they can develop the company and be open for promotions; our customers are our biggest strong point of the company, we believe in them.”
Since Taylor started working at Metro Cash and Carry, he observed tremendous achievements. “Most of the people that I have trained since I stared with Metro are now at brand manager positions. This is my biggest achievement in the company that I am proud of.
“Developing our people to reach their fullest potential is important. My motto is to promote within the company and developing our own people when it comes to their skills, so that they can follow in my footsteps,” he said.
Taylor says it has been tough due to the restrictions within the past two because of Covid-19. The company has encouraged employees to sanitise and follow the health protocols.”
