Born and raised in Okahandja, 27-year-old Selma Iita is making waves in the procurement industry with her impressive qualifications and dedication to her work.
With a diploma in local government studies and an honours degree in public management from the University of Namibia, as well as an accredited certificate in fundamentals of public procurement management, Iita is well-equipped to excel in her field.
Currently pursuing a postgraduate diploma in procurement management at the Namibian University of Science and Technology, she has five years of experience in the tendering industry and is currently thriving as a procurement tendering administrator for RND Holdings (Pty) Ltd.
Iita's journey with RND Holdings began in April 2023 when she successfully secured the role. Since then, she has expanded her expertise in procurement tendering and developed strong working relationships with colleagues and suppliers.
Actively participating in training programmes and professional development opportunities, Iita stays updated on industry best practices and regulations, ensuring she consistently delivers high-quality results for her organisation.
Working at RND Holdings, a holding company for multiple subsidiary companies, her role as a procurement tendering administrator involves ensuring continuous day-to-day office operations, completing bid documents, maintaining supplier relationships and handling financial tasks such as record-keeping and invoice-preparation.
Juggling various tasks across different projects simultaneously, Iita's meticulous attention to detail and thorough understanding of the procurement process have enhanced the efficiency and effectiveness of her organisation’s procurement operations.
The future
Looking towards the future, she aspires to advance her career in procurement by taking on more challenging roles and responsibilities. With her proactive communication style and collaborative approach, Iita has proven herself to be a valuable asset to her organisation and is well on her way to becoming a procurement specialist.
"In the next five years, I aim to further develop my expertise in strategic sourcing, contract negotiation and supplier relationship management. And this is why I am currently perusing a postgraduate diploma in procurement management. Ultimately, my goal is to become a procurement specialist," she said.
Despite the challenges present in the procurement industry, such as limited supplier diversity, regulatory compliance issues and transparency concerns, she remains focused on overcoming obstacles to achieve success.
Drawing inspiration from Winston Churchill’s words - “success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts” - Iita embraces challenges as opportunities for growth and learning.
