Wetumwene Shikage Juanitha Hamutenya’s main responsibility is to provide Human Resource (HR) advisory and consultancy services to the employees of Sanlam Namibia. After completing a “smooth and impressive” application for the position in December 2022, Hamutenya got the call for employment in February 2023 from Sanlam. “I couldn’t believe it at first but the feeling slowly sunk in that I will be working for Sanlam Namibia in a months’ time. I felt all sorts of emotions during my notice month, but the one that tops it all was “this feels right.”

As newly appointed HR business partner, Hamutenya has responsibilities and roles to take up. She is responsible for: coordinating and adding value to HR practices and functions; taking on HR special projects; working with legislative and statutory requirements.

Hamutenya says she enjoys everything about her job at Sanlam. Everything for her entails using System Analysis Program (SAP) development software to Sanlam HR world of work. She adds that learning every day alongside a supportive team during her transition is great and makes it even better. Furthermore, Hamutenya, while still new at the company says she is looking forward to creating good relationships with employees and contributing to HR practices and functions at Sanlam.

Looking ahead and aiming to grow within her career, Hamutenya says her career future plans include learning and shaping HR business partnering in the industry. Hamutenya prioritises the need to assess progress of work while at Sanlam. She does this by asking for regular feedback from her team and those she supplies HR services to.



About Hamutenya

The HR business partner was born and raised in Oshakati. She moved to Windhoek in 2010 to pursue her first honours degree from the University of Namibia (Unam) in the bachelor of industrial psychology and then pursued her second honours in HR management from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust) in 2016. She is now looking to further her studies by pursuing a master’s program starting in August 2023.

Hamutenya’s first HR job was at TransNamib on contract basis and then got a permanent offer from Old Mutual Namibia which started in November 2015 until March 2017. Thereafter, she received a growth opportunity from B2Gold Namibia, from April 2017 – March 2023. Hamutenya has approximately seven years’ of experience in the HR department.
