Namib Lions Athletics Club coach Michael Hamukwaya says he hopes that more athletes will be able to book their place to this year’s Commonwealth Games.
Hamukwaya said this at the Athletics Namibia Grand Prix second leg at the Independence Stadium on Saturday.
He added that he was pleased with the level of fitness some of the athletes showed at the event.
“It was a fantastic event to watch because many of the athletes really performed well.
“We are happy and hope that these athletes get the proper times in order for them to qualify to the Commonwealth Games.
“As a coach I am happy with the performance and I am sure that the athletes will just get better with time,” Hamukwaya told Sport Wrap.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Birmingham 2022, is an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth.
The event is scheduled to be held in Birmingham, England, with athletes representing their countries.
Namibia has in the past produced champions at the Commonwealth Games and Hamukwaya hopes that the country will be able to repeat some of those heroics going forward.
