A MAKEOVER FOR TOURISMUS NAMIBIA

Wiebke Schmidt
The new-look tourismus Namibia has been received well by visitors to the 2015 Namibia Tourism Expo. The handy format makes it a lot easier to page through and to keep for future reference. What’s more, the 60 gm white paper gives it a much longer lifespan and it’s small enough to fit into the glove box of your vehicle. With this in mind it has been decided to continue printing tourismus Namibia in this handy format.

The Annual Ongwediva Trade Fair (OATF), which has established itself as of the premier events on Namibia’s calendar of event, takes place from 21 to 29 August this year. In this edition of tourismus Namibia we take you on a journey to northern Namibia, highlighting some of the attractions of this part of Namibia which offers a unique combination of wildlife, culture and history.

If you’re looking for a getaway close to Windhoek, you’ll enjoy our feature on Omatozu Safari Camp and there’s also a story on Grootberg Lodge which celebrated its 10th anniversary recently.

NAMIBIA TOURISM EXPO 2016
With the 2015 Namibia Tourism Expo (NTE) still fresh in the mind of visitors and exhibitors, bookings for the 2016 NTE opened on 1 July. Exhibitors who book and pay in full before the end of August will receive a 10% discount. For more details, contact
Planning for next year’s NTE has already started and next year’s theme will focus on Namibia’s communal conservancies. Since the establishment of the first communal conservancy in ????, the number of conservancies has increased to over 80 and their combined area represent more than 20% of Namibia’s land surface. These conservancies have played an important role in conservation and the concept has been hailed as one of the success stories in conservation on the African continent.

NEW ON THE BOOKSHELF

The sixth edition of the popular “Gondwana History – Memorable Moments from Namibia’s Past” was launched recently.

Gondwana History VI is a colourful mix of stories: amusing, entertaining, some of them peculiar and others of a rather serious nature. Contributions include reflections on World War I, the legendary Nama leader, Hendrik Witbooi, and John Muafangejo, whose legacy includes an art school for aspiring artists from a background of poverty.

“With the Gondwana History series and the many other publications of the past years we made a valuable contribution towards preserving Namibia’s natural and historical heritage and passing it on to as many people as possible”, says Mannfred Goldbeck, the Managing Director of Gondwana Collection Namibia and initiator of the Gondwana History series.

Gondwana History VI is available at the Gondwana offices in Klein Windhoek (42 Nelson Mandela Ave, access from Dr Kwame Nkrumah St) for N$250 as well as at the lodges and in the bookshops.
