A tribute to late Pastor Paul |Goagoseb

Mandy Rittmann
|AWEBAHE JOHANNES ?HOESEB WRITES:

It is very great sadness in our hearts, minds and souls, that we as the members of the Damara Unity Initiative are bidding farewell to the late Pastor Paul |Goagoseb, a compatriot and fellow cadre in our quest for restoring, preserving and promoting the cultural, linguistic and historical heritage of the Damara Traditional Community in the Republic of Namibia, as well as improving the livelihoods of the Members of the Damara Traditional Community.

Almost a decade ago, Damaras representing all the clans and subclans of the Damara Traditional Community in the Republic of Namibia, gathered in the Swanevelder Hall in Otjiwarongo, Otjozondjupa Region.

This gathering of the Damaras gave birth to a structure which was baptized as the Damara Unity Initiative.

Chief amongst the ideals that the DUI had to strive for, was to unite Damaras of all walks of life, across party-political affiliation and religious divides, for the consideration of the implementation of a socio-economic developmental agenda for the Damaras.

One of the greatest achievements of the DUI to date was to have staged well-attended Damara Unity Conferences in Okahandja, Khorixas and |Â?gomes respectively.

It is at these three gatherings that great strides were made towards the review and the amendments effected to the Supreme Customary Law of the Damara Traditional Community.

Another notable deed of the DUI was to have had droves of Damaras from all walks of the political divide in our country flock in thousands to the Annual Traditional and Cultural Festival of the Damara Traditional Community in |Â?gomes.

The late Pastor Paul |Goagoseb has been a founder member of the Damara Unity Initiative, and its very first Chairperson.

We as the members of the DUI remember fondly the way in which he steered the proceedings of our regular meetings especially in Kai?khaes.

Having had a Pastor in our midst not only added a spiritual dimension to our meetings, but regulated our language use during those meetings. Luckily, him having been a very good-natured personality, we could talk freely and frankly, albeit without using foul language.

May God console the children, the entire bereaved family of the late Pastor Paul |Goagoseb, and the Members of the DUI, as well as the friends of the late Pastor Paul |Goagoseb, and let his soul rest in eternal peace. Amen.
