An example of transformation in Namibia rugby

Desiré Coetzee’s presence on the bench of the Welwitschias rugby team during the Currie Cup qualifiers has raised many questions. Who is she? Where does she come from now all of a sudden?
Well, all these questions were answered in the Republikein dated 01 July 2016 (“In die wêreld van die ovaalbal, kraai Desiré koning”).
Thank you to Henriette Lamprecht and Tanja Bause for this information. We who are forever criticizing the NRU for turning their back on transformation should also now stand up and raise a glass with Windhoek Draught and say well done NRU.
Desiré's appointment as team manager of the Welwitschias is transformation the way it should be done. Looking at her track record, it clearly shows that she has followed a development pathway, from club level to where she is now. Do us not forget to salute Trustco United for giving a lady the opportunity to develop herself. Another first for United as well after opening their club to black players even before independence.
So where to from here for Desiré? The NRU is in the position to create opportunities for all its members, but does not always have the financial means to assist its members to make use of the opportunities presented to them.
Hopefully companies have read the article about Desiré and sponsors the opportunities to empower herself as a national team manager.
Would it not be great if Namibia has a female Team Manager at the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan?
To the NRU: Would it not be possible to send Desiré to the Stormers or Springboks training camp for at least one week to work with their managers and support staff? Any sponsors out there?
Well done to all in assisting Desiré with her career in a man’s world.
Now this is what I call transformation.
