Another award for Plastic Packaging
Plastic Packaging believes that their success comes from their motto of “hard on results, but soft on people”.
STAFF REPORTER - Plastic Packaging has won the 2021 Southern Africa Regional Exporters Award, organised by the USAid Southern African Trade and Investment Hub and coordinated by the Eastern Cape Development Corporation.
The Namibian company’s latest achievement follows after recently scooping up the Namibia Manufacturers Association (NMA) award for Corporate Manufacturer of the Year 2021.
Celebrating excellence among exporter firms, the Trade Hub of the United States Agency for International Development (USAid) last week brought together all the Exporter of the Year winners from eight countries to compete in the Regional Exporter Awards. As such, winning firms from Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa and Zambia competed against Plastic Packaging from Namibia for the overall winner of the Southern Africa Exporter Awards in various categories.
The USAid Trade Hub actively engaged with countries in Southern Africa to increase sustainable growth, export competitiveness and trade within these countries.
The judging panel at the awards comprised of experts with international business experience drawn from the private and public sectors. The event’s bedrock foundation was the realisation that Africa’s economic success and growth does not rest in individuals but in collaborative efforts and working together through exporting.
The criteria for the award were to find a company with the following trademarks: a degree of innovation, an international marketing strategy, strategic business practices and future planning and great financial performance.
The relationship between export and economic growth is gaining momentum with methods being administered that prove how countries accelerate economic growth through increase in exports. It is aimed at recognising companies that have thrived and that have helped other companies prosper in exports despite challenges and hardships like the Covid-19 pandemic.
Plastic Packaging CEO Nico du Plessis in his acceptance speech said the company was privileged to receive such a prestigious award and to represent Namibia in the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
