B2Gold Namibia celebrates two events with the Otavi community every year. namely the Otavi elderly Christmas lunch and Disability Day.

The events are intended to show gratitude to the elderly and persons living with disabilities, and to give back to the community.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be no Christmas lunch this year. Instead, the corporation handed over food parcels worth N$300 000.

Senior citizens received 600 food parcels and 200 food parcels were distributed to people living with disabilities.

According to the managing director, Mark Dawe, this initiative is very close to his heart and he promised the community of Otavi that as long as he is at B2Gold this initiative will never come to an end.

“The CSI budget is the only budget we are allowed to exceed because we believe in making our communities a better place to live in,” he said.

Dawe also added that B2Gold will continue to invest in communities around the regions, and not only in Otavi.

The mayor of Otavi, Isaac !Hoaeb, thanked B2Gold Namibia for its generous contribution to the town.

“This year has been a year of many challenges as well as achievements. All of humanity has been affected or infected in one way or another by the Covid-19 pandemic and there is no doubt that survival will require a collective effort,” he says.

!Hoaeb urged residents of Otavi to look out for one another and be safe during the festive season. “Let us not only be receivers but also givers. We should in our capacity learn to give and assist where we can,” he said.
