Humiliation as a pathway to imagining social change

It is undeniable that we as a society find ourselves at a crossroads. Ours is still a society scarred by its past, besieged by a myriad of social challenges and marked by inequality and disaffection. It is this disaffection that has led to discontentment. When you situate this discontentment, you will find anger at the body politic that perpetuates the inequality and humiliation at a life lived in conditions that are at times inhumane. Humiliation can be a powerful force for change, but can also illicit violence if not harnessed for positive change. By recounting tales of my humiliation growing up in an unequal society, I invite you to grapple with the irreducible complexities that define our society. It is an invitation to examine the contours and contradictions of our politics in reimagining a new social dispensation. Discontent is brewing and our challenge now is to harness that discontent. Our conditions are ripe and open for a social entrepreneurship revolution.
