Saarty Mikka was born in a small village in northern Namibia, known as Okatope. At age seven, she was enrolled in a boarding school then known as Micky Mouse Primary School and later renamed to Golden Maggy Primary School. She completed high school at Etosha Secondary School before completing her bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronic engineering at Stellenbosch University in South Africa.

Mikka loves travelling and exploring various restaurants and is fairly athletic. She plays hockey and soccer and recently, she took up cycling as well.

Since university, Mikka has had an eye for interior décor, which developed into an interest and later an obsession. That, along with home makeovers.

“I thought it would be a great idea to be the supplier for the home makeover business so I decided to start manufacturing my own furniture,” she says.

This was when Windhoek Interior Designs started taking form. Mikka has also noticed that affordability was a problem for many who were looking to buy furniture and with this in mind, she merged her passion for interior décor and urge to solve problems into a business. Her aim as a business person is to help clients “attain the living space of their dreams at an affordable cost without any compromises on great quality”.

A venture that is flexible and committed to meeting customers’ requests, Windhoek Interior Designs was established in mid-2019. Taking into account the competition in the market, Mikka did not shy away from the opportunity that existed in the market to “do something different”.

An initial step was to secure funding for equipment, which saw the creation of the first headboard and eventually their first customer. Marketing was the next dedication for the business, which saw the creation of a website as well as e-commerce store.

Windhoek Interior Designs not only provides customers with a place to find the ideal furniture but they also offer services to help them find a theme that works for their living space.

“We can help customers enhance their living spaces by focusing on different design elements such as space, light, colour, textures and patterns and keeping them well aligned to create an aesthetically pleasing interior.”

Mikka’s hopes for the business is to become the ‘go-to’ interior design business countrywide with the capacity to manufacture any design, shape or furniture.

“I would also like to be a supplier for most of the Namibian furniture stores so that they wouldn’t need to import furniture that is readily available locally,” says Mikka, who also hopes to export her products to other countries in the future.

Windhoek Interior Designs is a fully online-based business. At www.whkinteriors.online, customers can order products to be delivered to their doorsteps, or for pickup.

“My passion comes from seeing how happy my clients are when they purchase a product from us and how it transforms their living space,” Mikka says.
