The official event took place at the Namibia Training Authority on 6 October and the team was wished the best of luck by deputy minister of higher education, training and innovation, Becky Ndjoze-Ojo. “The WorldSkills Competition is an opportunity for our youth to showcase their skills and demonstrate their talents on a global platform, and test themselves against the most demanding international standards,” she says.

The team will participate at the competition which will take place on the 14 to 19 October in the Middle East. The 7 participants are granted the opportunity for skills exchange and will be able to experience the latest technological innovations and best practice in their respective fields, with an aim to adapt those into our local training system upon their return.

Namibia will be competing in seven of the skills categories, namely bricklaying, carpentry, cooking, electrical installations, joinery, plumbing and heating, as well as wall and floor tiling. Ndjoze-Oje also adds that the 2017 WorldSkills Competition will see 1256 Competitors from 58 countries participating in 51 skills.

“The young people who will compete in WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 are “the best of the best.” They have already proven their exceptional talents by winning selection to the teams of the 77 WorldSkills Member Countries, through qualifying skills competitions,” she says. Namibia will be one of the 6 countries from Africa in Abu Dhabi.
