Bringing people together with traditional cuisine

Bringing light through food and dialogue is what the company is about. This is taken from the basis of history where bonfires would be lit. Ancestors would sit around the fire and have a meal together. The great feeling of seeing people sit together sharing a meal and conversating with family or friends is what Xwama strives for.

The company currently employs about 15 employees who make sure to sell Xwama’s authentic food from the Oshiwambo culture. Matangara, marathon chicken, mopane worms, mutete from Kavango East, Ombidi (dried traditional spinach), oshingali (puréed white beans).

The cuisine is served in order to bring the traditional favourites closer to the people in urban areas. The company aims to provide clients with quality service, experience and exposure to the Oshiwambo culture and cuisine.

Xwama’s company culture is to create friendly bonds between employees, the employer and customers. This is done to have great connections and comfortable channels of communication to improve equality among all people. This allows open dialogues and ideas to be brought up for improvement. Making Xwama the spot of great traditional cuisine is the ultimate goal.

The premises of Xwama resemble a great ambience of the Oshiwambo traditional homes which is maintained from day to day. This is done as the first priority. The gardening and cleaning of the restaurant and departments takes place to make sure that the premises are welcoming to guests.

Xwama serves for all people including the locals, corporate and private sectors without any restrictions to any of them. Catering for year-end functions and for individual clients who would like to come in for an event or celebration.

Marketing for the brand is important and done through the distribution of pamphlets, newspaper adverts and moved to digital marketing through social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. These same platforms allow customers to collectively enjoy their food.
