British High Commission hosts farewell for Namibian Chevening/Petrofund scholars
The British High Commission hosted a farewell event for eight Namibian scholars taking up their postgraduate studies in the UK in the coming weeks. All eight Namibians are going to the UK under the prestigious UK government-funded Chevening scholarship programme. One scholar is jointly funded by Chevening and the Petroleum Training and Education Fund (Petrofund).
The beneficiaries are Johanna Absalom (MA International Social Development, University of East Anglia), Moses William (MSc Hydrography, Plymouth University), Ndiweteko Nghishitende (LLM in Human Rights Law, Queen Mary, University of London), Valistinus Ashipala (MSc in Public Health and Health Promotion, Bangor University), Moses Matyayi (MA in Human Resource Management, London Metropolitan University), joint Petrofund/Chevening scholar Miriam Ndafediva (MSc Oil and Gas Finance, Robert Gordon University), Johannes Klemens (MSc Global Health, University of Glasgow) and Jonas Amukende (MA Metals and Energy Finance, Imperial College, London).
At the occasion, Chevening Alumni Association Namibia chairperson, Vicky Matjila, said Chevening is a great opportunity for these bright and promising young Namibians.
“I am very excited for them, as they are embarking on the journey of a lifetime which will be packed with discoveries, joy, excitement and challenges. Studying is the most extraordinary experience one can have, and I'm sure these outstanding Namibians will embrace this opportunity and make the best of it for the sake of Namibia-UK ties.” Chevening Scholarships form part of the UK government's global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The programme awards outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world scholarships to study postgraduate courses at UK universities.
The current Chevening online application cycle for Namibia opened on 7 August and will close on 7 November. More information about the Chevening Scholarship programme can be found at http://www.chevening.org/namibia/.
Awards in Namibia are typically for a one-year master's degree, with priority given to those who wish to study in the areas of Trade, Human Rights, Governance, Media and Climate Change at any of the UK's leading universities. In partnership with the Petrofund, Chevening is offering two jointly-funded scholarships in the field of MSc Oil and Gas Chemistry for two Namibian scholars.
