Burning Shore's facelift on track

IT is all systems go at the African Pride Burning Shore, where construc tion and redecorating has begun on the first phase of the extensive multi-milllion dollar refurbishing and expansion project. A site meeting held last weekend at the Langstrand boutique hotel held between Haddis Tilahun, executive director of the UAG, and the project architect from Walvis Bay, Cobus Lotter, proved fruitful.

The architect’s plans were given the thumbs-up to start building the second phase next year, which Tilahun pointed out that the facelift and extension will be adding fi rst class accommodation and a fresh new image to the hotel. Also present at the meeting was UAG group CEO Brian Rubinstein and Graham Howard, the regional director of Protea Hotels Namibia, who is keeping tabs on these latest developments in view of the holiday season, which is around the corner.

Lotter said he is working closely with the interior decorator to finish two rooms at a time, and that they are pushing to ensure that the existing suites are completed in time for the December rush. Howard stated that the refurbishment would indeed provide superior luxury accommodation in Long Beach, as well as a touch of celebrity class throughout all the rooms.

Meanwhile phase two will comprise building on the adjacent erf south of the existing Burning Shore, with approximately 20 additional hotel rooms, garages, a gym and a swimming pool added on. The new wing with sea facing rooms will also compliment the existing style. Construction of the second phase is expected to be completed in 2008, while presently work is being done on upgrading all the rooms and public areas.
