Champion spellers
My Zone awarded its 2021 Straight Talk Spelling Bee champion, Victoria Iyambo from Hermann Gmeiner Primary School, and runner-up, Connor du Plessis from Windhoek Gymnasium, their prizes on Wednesday, 19 January 2022. Sharing her experience, Iyambo said when she first took part in the competition, she felt a little nervous and that she didn’t want to disappoint her mother. “When I won, I was very happy and I want to thank My Zone for the competition.”
Connor du Plessis said at first, he thought he was not going to do so well but after the first round he got a lot of courage and he ended up winning second place.
Seven schools, namely Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaatskool (WAP), Eros Primary, Sunshine Private School, Pionierspark Primary School, Windhoek Gymnasium, Hermann Gmeiner and Orban Primary School, took part in the spelling bee. The prizes were sponsored by Sugar King Namibia and FNB.
