Cinderella ball debuts matric girls
The annual Women of Destiny Cinderella Ball will take place from 12:00 until 17:00 on Saturday, 9 September, at the Hilton Hotel in Windhoek.
The Cinderella Ball is an initiative of Women of Destiny Trust (WOD), a non-profit Namibian philanthropic organisation.
WOD and Africa Institutional Management Services (Aims) have partnered to empower Namibian women through a skills development programme. The programme will equip women with a variety of vocational skills that will enable them to join the workforce.
At this year's ball the WOD will also announce its Renewable Energy bursary for female matriculants in an effort to encourage female representation in energy-related fields of study.
WOD founder Cynthia Martin-Haihambo launched the Cinderella Ball in 2013 to enable underprivileged and destitute Grade 12 females to attend their much-anticipated matric farewells.
The girls are located throughout the 14 regions of Namibia and have been identified by their school counsellors as being underprivileged or destitute.
The main collection points for dresses, jewellery and shoes to be distributed among underprivileged girls throughout Namibia are in Windhoek.
The donated items will be boxed and couriered directly to high schools throughout Namibia.
This year's event will feature career advice and motivational talks from Namibian professionals spanning a variety of fields.
The programme lineup will also feature entertainment, mentoring, and a touch of glamour to make the girls in attendance feel like royalty for a day.
