Angola

Angola's health ministry on Saturday confirmed its first two cases of coronavirus.

Zimbabwe

Uganda

Uganda confirmed its first coronavirus case yesterday, the health minister said.

Ruth Jane Aceng said the patient is a 36 year old Ugandan male who arrived in Uganda from Dubai aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight on Saturday morning.

Uganda will request the World Bank for a loan of US$190 million to help cushion its economy from the impact of the coronavirus outbreak, the finance minister said.

Separately, the Ugandan central bank said it would provide liquidity to commercial lenders in case they experienced distress as a result of economic disruptions caused by outbreak. – Nampa/Reuters

Eritrea

Eritrea has confirmed its first coronavirus case, in a traveller arriving from Norway, its information minister said on Saturday.

He added that the 39-year-old was an Eritrean national with permanent residence in Norway and was undergoing treatment.

Nigeria

Nigeria will close its two main international airports in the cities of Lagos and Abuja from tonight, its civil aviation regulator said on Saturday, as the number of coronavirus cases in the country almost doubled.

The airports, which join three others around the country, will be shuttered for one month, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement.

South Africa

South Africa’s biggest supermarket Shoprite will limit purchases of some food products and medicines, it said on Thursday.

Shoprite said it is now rationing the sale of toilet paper, tissues, wipes, liquid soap, hand sanitiser as well as some tinned foods, cereals, antiseptic disinfectant liquids, medicines and vitamins.

On Wednesday, Woolworths said it is introducing a limit of only three items per product and per customer on every grocery line, while Massmart’s Makro has also restricted purchases of essential items like rice, frozen chicken and toilet paper.

Burkina Faso

Four government ministers in Burkina Faso have tested positive for the coronavirus, a government spokesman said on Saturday, as the number of reported cases rose to 64 from 40, the highest in West Africa.

Egypt

Egypt on Saturday ordered mosques and churches to shut their doors to worshippers in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus, after calls for the government to follow steps taken by neighbouring countries.
