Andrew Poolman
The annual Sanlam Cancer Challenge qualifier of the Windhoek Golf and Country Club drew an excellent field of 66 players last weekend.
The weather was cold and windy and most players found the going difficult, except for the Men’s B division in which four players scored under their handicap.

WALVIS BAY
In a very different format of the game, the WBM FLAGS, Wilma van der Merwe was the only player to carry her flag back into the Walvis Bay clubhouse last Saturday, and thus claim the crown as the flags winner for the year.
Second place went to Andre Burger who played his last shot to the apron on the 18th. Morné Roux was a close third, while Estelle Bothma was fourth. Pieter van Aarde secured the fifth prize.
Also among the prizes were Anton van Rensburg, Johnny Borges, Pieter Heunis and Oswald Roos.
This weekend is the PSG better ball day.
There will be three big draws made at the club tonight. First up will be the last of this format for the members draw for N$500, whereafter the N$1 000 extra draw will follow, which at the time of reporting only had Anton’s name in. With a bit of luck two or even three names could be added by the draw time.
After that the Standard Bank Matchplay month draw for N$1 000 will take place for players who have played three or maximum four games in the matchplay event. So lots of money up for grabs tonight, you just have to be there to stand a chance to win.
Remember that the AGM will be held on 24th August. The AGM is the only forum for members to make suggestions and contributions to the management and running of the club, so just be there to have your say. Maybe even make yourself available to stand on the committee.
