Davin Trust backs tennis stars
IN 2007 the Janine and Suzelle Davin Sports Trust was founded to inspire young sport stars to follow their dreams of achieving excellence in sport. The Trust makes a positive difference in the lives of talented, dedicated and motivated young Namibian tennis players by assisting them financially and through a professionally supported personal relationship.
Riekie Honiball and Henco Serdyn were honoured to be beneficiaries of this opportunity which they are very thankful for. Riekie participated in two ITF events in 2007 in Port Elizabeth and East London; in 2008 she played two ITF events in West Africa (reaching the finals in both events) and participated in the 13th ITF/CAT African Junior Championships, Botswana in March where she ended 5th out of a 32 draw.
Upcoming events where Riekie is planning to participate is the SATA Interprovincial Tournament in Bloemfontein in April, ITF tournament in Morocco, some ITF events in England if her ranking is good enough, two ITF tournaments in RSA in August and the ITF u.18 circuit in Namibia in August 2008. She has obtained a four year scholarship at the Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in America where she will join them in August 2008.
The Trust assisted Henco in the ITF u.18 circuit in Botswana and ITF event in PE in 2007. He participated in the 13th ITF/CAT African Junior Championships, Botswana in March where he ended 10th out of a 32 draw. Upcoming events he is planning for include two ITF group 2 events in RSA in July and the ITF u.18 circuit in August in Windhoek. He aims to take up a scholarship in America in August 2009.
Riekie and Henco also thanked Mr Lothar Geier who managed through Dunslaz Distributors for assistance with a professional tennis equipment sponsorship contract for the last three years to these dedicated upcoming youngsters.
The sponsorship consists of rackets, thermo bags, grips, strings, clothing and various other items which get renewed every year. Through the generous contributions from the Janine and Suzelle Davin Sports Trust and Dunlop RSA, Riekie and Henco had the opportunity to be successful and achieve good ITF junior world rankings. Riekie obtained her highest ranking of 231st and Henco respectively 638th.
