Edugate Academy cycles to Cape Town

Cari Mosehuus

Edugate Academy recently participated in Elnatan Private School’s Virtual Cycling Challenge to Cape Town. It was an honour and privilege for the Grade 1 – 12 learners and teachers to be part of the challenge, which took place at Etemba Plaza in Otjiwarongo. The sport committee of Edugate organised the event, and which succeeded in covering the entire 1 400 km in the allotted time.

There was also a Corporate Triathlon, which was an attempt to get the Otjiwarongo community to participate in the special event. Sixteen businesses took part in this event, consisting of an obstacle course, fun pong and cycling.

A few teachers were introduced in the school hall with their specially selected nicknames, their proposed distance to cycle, and also their ‘superpower’ weaknesses. This was quite the tonic to get the entire school rallied up and excited before the event took place. This, together with the sports committee challenging the cultural committee, succeeded in building spirit and enthusiasm in young and old.

The Otjiwarongo community was very supportive and local artist Stefan Ludik was there to entertain with some sweet songs at the Dros. This created an atmosphere of fun, laughter and even people getting up to dance.

Edugate would like to thank everyone who sponsored the cyclists and all the other donations received. Special thanks to Mr Theo Borstlap, who was responsible for the venue, Etemba Plaza, and also thank you to Stefan Ludik. We would like to thank Dros for their specials and accommodating the parents with delicious food and drinks, and lastly, we would like to send a special shout-out to Elnatan Private School for their initiative.
