Tucked away in a green oasis, is a quiet bush veld retreat.
Omaruru Game Lodge is renowned for its diverse and unique wildlife.
Situated within a 20 minute drive from Omaruru, it is the perfect place to unwind from the hustle and bustle of modern day life.
Upon your arrival, the cozy, serene atmosphere relaxes you instantly. The lodge’s thatched bungalows are grouped under palm trees around the large waterhole which is home to a number of animals ranging from giraffes to rhinos.
The restaurant terrace looking out over the waterhole comes to life in the evening. Guest can enjoy a sundowner while scanning the waterhole for gemsbok, giraffe, rhinos, eland and zebras.
Sam Neumbo, the caretaker of the animals and field guide, has been working tirelessly with the animals for the past ten years to make them more comfortable with human interaction. One of the rhinos and younger giraffe even allow you to touch them.
On the game drives that take place two times a day, you get up close and personal with elephants (one of the big five).
Not too far from the waterhole, Tamu the cheetah lives in her enclosure, with a leopard cub as her neighbour. Sam feeds both about 4 kilogrammes of fresh oryx meat each day.
“We pride ourselves on the fact that we go the extra mile to be more interactive with the animals living here, making the experience so much more memorable and exciting,” said Neumbo.
The game park is unique in Namibia as it has the highest wildlife stock, ranging from oryx, kudu, waterbuck, zebra, eland, blesbuck, ostrich, springbok, blue and black wildebeest, common and endangered black nose impala, warthog, steenbok, damara dik-dik, chacma baboon and many bird species.
The game park area of the lodge stretches out over 3 400 hectares.
The Omaruru Game Lodge is located in the southern part of the game park.
The lodge offers 21 comfortable bungalows with a total of 42 beds. Each room is equipped with a shower, toilet, air condition, refrigerator, comfortable beds and mosquito protection.
Outside the bungalows, the natural stone path leads to the swimming pool, barbecue area and the restaurant offering African and European cuisine.
The welcoming managers of the lodge, Carien, Connie and Christine, have a wide range of knowledge about the wonders of the area, and along with their friendly staff go the great lengths to ensure that guests have everything they need.
