Eneas Mwanyangapo was born and raised in Oshakati. He completed his junior and senior secondary certificate at Erundu Combined School in Oshakati and Mweshipandeka High School in Ongwediva. After that, he studied towards a Bachelor of Accounting degree at the University of Namibia, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Accounting Sciences from the University of South Africa.
The dedicated individual is now completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Accounting Sciences, also with the University of South Africa.
“My love for accounting started in grade eight after balancing my first financial statements, knowing that transactions can come from a source document and through the other books, ledgers, trial balances and still balance. It was very fascinating for me,” he says.
His love for accounting led him to become an accounts payable accountant at MultiChoice Namibia. He is the custodian of the procurement policy, procedure and fixed asset procedures in the company. This entails making sure MultiChoice Namibia purchases from the suppliers with the best products and quality service. He also makes sure there are no conflicts of interest between the company and its suppliers.
“Because there are significant assets all over the country, I make sure all of these things can always be accounted for as we have branches in the north, at the coast and with our respective agents,” he says.
He says managing his studies and working at the same time has been the biggest challenge in his career. “Also, making sure that when I am at the office, I give 100% and when at home, I would have to do the same. I love to keep consistent,” he says proudly.
His biggest accomplishment so far would be completing his Public Accountants' and Auditors' Board (PAAB) articles, with one of the Big Four audit firms in Namibia, and being part of the MultiChoice Namibia finance team which is full of people who push themselves to meet deadlines all the time. “We are currently the best finance team in Africa in the MultiChoice Group,” he says.
His day involves making sure payments to suppliers are made on time, reviewing supplier application forms, and ensuring only approved suppliers are loaded.
Mwanyangapo is inspired by people who don’t complain about the situations they find themselves but do everything in their power to improve their lives.
His advice to young is to educate people themselves. “Make sure you have a qualification; it is the best fallback you can ever have. If you hate reading, download audio versions of books and listen. Just upskill yourself because the world is changing every day. What is relevant today will not be relevant tomorrow,” he says.
He plans on moving up the corporate ladder as accounting is made up of different areas and he would like to call himself a specialist in one of the areas.
Entering the corporate world and knowing that he needs to take responsibility when things go wrong or right was the best phase of his life. “When I started accepting positive and negative feedback, I was able to grow in my career and manage my team more effectively.”
If he had an opportunity to change something in the world, he would teach the world patience. "I believe a lot of misunderstandings in the world right now are due to people not having the patience to listen to each other.”
