Former Proteas swing at Omeya

Retired Proteas cricket legends, Jacques Kallis and Mark Boucher, joined the inaugural Omeya Golf Day as players last Friday.
Eighteen teams participated with four players per team. Players were treated to a five-star golfing experience followed by a spectacular evening function with live musician, Jo Nichol.
Omeya Golf Club would like to thank all the sponsors who made this day possible, including those who sponsored items for the auction.
Omeya Golf Club is already in discussions with the two cricket legends with regards to the 2017 event.

WINDHOEK COUNTRY CLUB
The fourth event in the Windhoek Lager monthly medley was well-supported last Saturday, with 35 players in the medal field and 13 in the stableford field.
The order of merit for the medal championship is now beginning to take shape with four events remaining in the series of eight. Mark Raidza and Melt van Schoor are joint leaders with 172 points, with Raidza winning the count-out due to a lower handicap.
Last year’s champion, Christie de Wet, and some of the frontrunners of 2015 (George Vink and Corneels Jafta) are all languishing lower down in the order of merit and will have to pull out all the stops in the next four events to make an impact in the championship this year.
The winners of the day were as follows:
MEDAL COMPETITION:
Overall: George Vink – 67 nett
A Division: Corneels Jafta – 69
B Division: Mark Raidza – 67
C Division: Sakkie van Niekerk – 70
Ladies: Heidi van Niekerk – 74
Juniors: Nieuwoudt Hendrikse – 68
The leading players after four events of the medal championship are:
1 Mark Raidza – 172 points, 2 Melt van Schoor – 172, 3 Heidi van Niekerk – 158, 4 Kasoma Paulino – 154, 5 Gustaf Fransman – 146.
The stableford competition winners:

WALVIS BAY
The annual Sanlam Cancer Awareness golf day held at the Walvis Bay club last weekend was the ultimate winner when 52 players including one visitor, Niel Swanepoel, turned out to support the initiative.
Added to the support a voluntary donation by each player raised another N$1 000 for the cause. A donated 5 litre of wine was also auctioned and funds generated were also donated to the Cancer Association of Namibia.
Goods scores and different winners were the order of the day. Playing in three divisions and an individual stableford format for men and ladies, there were a good few prizes up for grabs. Winner of the A division was Pieter Fox on a solid 42 points, followed by Kevin Wentzel (40) and Rocco Viljoen (38).
The B division was won by Sergio on an impressive 43 points, with Wouter van Wijk laying a steady 41 and Vitor Clara one shot further back.
Boel Grobler won the C division on 37 points and Pieter Heunis was a close second on 36 while Oom Pikkie won the count-out on 31 to take the third spot.
The ladies A division was won by Wilma van der Merwe, Estelle Bothma won the B division while Linda Loots won the C division.
This coming weekend is the PSG golf day and the format is to be advised, so watch the notice board. On 18 June is the Supatronix day.

SWAKOPMUND
Last Saturday saw Bank Windhoek back as sponsors at Rössmund for the second week in a row. As always with betterball competitions the field was good and the laughs were even better.
It was also great to see some new faces amongst the winners. Two-clubs were scored by T van Rensburg and H Ndjendja. Nearest to the pin at hole nr. 3 was S Ndalumbumo; at hole 7 F Terblanche; hole 12 T van Rensburg and hole 16 S Massipa.
The overal winning team was P Witt/P Bassingthwaighte on 45 points, on count-out against F Terblanche/H Viljoen on the same score.
Third place went to T van Rensburg/C Lawrence (42) followed by G Breedt/G Grosse (41, c/o) and G Louw/D Eksteen (41).
