Fox and Figueiredo come up trumps

Golf
Last Saturday brought out a great field of golfers to the Rössmund course at Swakopmund, in support of the new sponsor Dulux and the interesting format of their newly introduced tournament on the Namibian golfing scene.

Weather conditions were just perfect for golf. The players pulled out all the stops coming in with some good scores.

Two-clubs were recorded on holes 7 and 12 by C Lawrence (2), C du Randt and A Bonifatius.

The winners of round 1 were: 1 Pieter Fox & Sergio Figueiredo 49 points; 2 K Wentzel / W van Zyl 48; 3 A Bonifatius & T Shitaleni 45 (on count-out over M Jacobs/C Lawrence).

There were two lucky draws going to Tiekie de Wet and Stanley Gawanab.

The club expressed thanks to Dulux for this great initiative and their support of golf throughout Namibia. Johan Smit and Kanna Le Riche were there on the day to enjoy the fantastic golf course and to officiate at the prize-giving.

Players can look forward to round 2 on 21 April.

• Last Sunday saw a good turnout of SAGES in support of a new sponsor Tienie & Betsie van Rensburg from Guesthouse Fischreiher. Tienie is an ardent golfer and can be seen regularly on the Rössmund fairways.

The weather was hot at times until a slight southwesterly breeze brought some relief.

Unfortunately there were no 2-clubs – no one managed to drive reaching the green on hole number 12, however sponsor Tienie was successful on number 7.

The winners were: 1 Clive Lawrence 37 points; 2 Chris Bothma 36; 3 Tim Botha 35 (c/o); 4 Koot Potgieter 35; 5 Tienie van Rensburg 33 (c/o over Lucille Abrahams and Mark Jacobs).

As always everyone went away with a bit of something and the camaraderie was great.

• Coming up tomorrow at Rössmund is the Novanam Monthly Medal.
