Girls lose two more matches in Botswana
Namibia lost both its matches, against Uganda and Zimbabwe, on day two games of the Africa Under-21 World Cup qualifiers on Monday.
The continental Under-21 World Cup qualifiers are currently underway in Gaborone, Botswana. The qualifiers started Sunday and will conclude this coming Saturday.
The Namibian team lost their second game 26-47 against Uganda and then went on to lose their third game of the competition by 20-38 against Zimbabwe.
In their opening match of the competition on Sunday the Namibian team lost 30-48 against Malawi.
Eight nations – hosts Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Uganda, Lesotho and South Africa – are competing, with the top three places qualifying for the Netball World Youth Cup in 2017, also to be hosted by Botswana.
Namibia next play today at 12:00 Namibian time against the host nation Botswana.
Coach Antoinette Wentworth posted the following after the defeat against Malawi: “We put up a good fight from the second quarter until the very end as the girls narrowed the points gap.
“We had a thorough game analysis and pointed out the areas that need improvement. For some players it was their first international exposure. So yes, there was some anxiety. The girls are very positive and ready to improve on mistakes in addition to focusing on each other’s strong points.”
The Namibian team currently in Botswana are Sharny Engelbrecht, Rieta Marie Brandt, Juzelri Garbers, Jessica Moolman, Jehumba Hambira, Atushe Shihepo, Vickey Uarije, Uehengisa Tjozongoro, Tjimbakavaza Tjepetekera, Himezeembi Tjejamba, Minerva Calvar Callozo and Ronell Benson. - Nampa
