BDO has been working towards helping develop the chartered accountant and professional accountant professions. This year BDO is introducing the BDO Young Professionals Academy (BYPA), which includes other career possibilities within the industry.

One of the key factors they have identified in the success of the candidates is support and mentorship, which the BYPA trainees will receive in abundance from the BDO team.

BYPA’s vision is to help students achieve their dream career, be it becoming a chartered accountant or a professional accountant, or a career in administrative and support services, such as secretarial and tax services, human resources, marketing and communication, information technology or general administration.

How the programme works:

The grade nine introduction: They will engage schools in Namibia and teach grade nine learners about the CA, NIIPA and other professions, as well as discuss subject choices, careers planning and guidance.

Grade 10-12 (BYPA Pre | Trainees): They will go through a rigorous selection process where the top 10 will be accepted in to the BYPA programme. Mentorship, encouragement and unique learning opportunities will be received. Their dedicated team of professionals will provide them with soft skills training and a variety of competence that you will need to progress to BYPA Pre II.

CA/Accounting Stream University students (BYPA Pre II Trainees): To become a BYPA Pre II Trainee you will need to have met the competencies required in the previous level, as well as registered for a SAICA/NIPA accredited degree.

These trainees will have a variety of opportunities available to them, including job shadowing and holiday jobs. They will be invited to attend soft skills training and team buildings with the BDO teams. The BYPA Pre II Trainees who perform exceptionally well stand in line to receive bursaries.

Mentorship for all career choices will continue. Internship is currently exclusive to CA and accounting stream students.

PAAB/NIPA Training Contract: When the BYPA Pre II Trainees have completed the academic requirements, they are ready to commence their Public Auditors and Accountants Board (PAAB) or Namibia Institute of Professional Accountants articles through the BDO training office/accredited training centre.

If you want BDO to engage with your school, ask your principal or accounting teacher to email [email protected] and request for a visit.
