Goosen, Poultney win Independence Day event
Golf
The Windhoek Golf and Country Club hosted the Bank Windhoek sponsored Independence Day Celebration competition last Saturday.
A total of 58 players heeded the call to participate in this annual event. The numbers were down compared to last year, which can be attributed to the fact that it was a long weekend for many.
There was a slight twist in the betterball scoring format in that both players of each team's result on hole 17 had to be multiplied. Some scored 12 points, many zero.
Again, it was a very hot summer's day, with clouds building up, followed by a short sand storm and just a few drops of rain – a pattern that players have become used to it this season.
The top results for the Bank Windhoek Independence Day Trophy were as follows:
1 Gunnar Goosen and Chris Poultney (50 points)
2 Hansina Hinda and Gerson Hinda (49)
3 XL Zhang and M Deng (46, count-out
4 Cor Beuke and Celonika Robinson (46)
5 George Gariseb and Bertus Damon (46)
6 Burger Bergh and Burger van Taak (45)
7 Ian Wood and Gerhard Van Rooyen (44)
8 Natasja Louw and John Vermeulen (43)
9 Chris van Lill and Christie de Wet (42)
10 Clint Dauti and Eddie Chikohora (41)
Four prizes for shots nearest to the pin were also up for grabs and were won by George Gariseb (hole 3), Bertus Damon (hole 9), Gunnar Goosen (hole 13) and Jason Amutenya (hole 17)
Three lucky draw prizes were sponsored by Bank Windhoek.
The club captain, Gustav Jung, thanked all participants for the support and Bank Windhoek for its huge sponsorship.
This Saturday, the club will host the first STAG competition (Society of Tuesday and Thursday Afternoon Golfers), sponsored by NamibRe.
