Government’s double standards

Mandy Rittmann
ANONYMOUS WRITES:

It’s quite mind-boggling and worrisome to notice that the Government is disregarding the very same laws that they are enacting at the costs of the tax payers.

The holistic and legislative instruments and systems are there, but the Government has no or little respect for the rule of law. The Government is illegally interfering into the election of traditional leaders of the respective traditional communities. One must be an affiliated member of the Ruling Swapo Party in order to be recognized very quickly and smoothly by the Government.

It’s a very serious offense if the opposition parties rally for support through the traditional authorities, which almost amounts to high treason, but it’s nothing if the Government does it.

There is almost no traditional authority in this country with a clean house without any break-away factions or splinter groups, especially in the Nama speaking authorities of the south. Some of them are untouchable, whilst others are receiving mediocre treatment.

The Government must as a matter of urgency take politics out of traditional affairs and stop giving Swapo affiliated chiefs political camaderie, comradeship and protection, even if they are wrong.

Government recognition had nothing but nothing to do with our choice of traditional chiefs, headmen and traditional councillors etc. They can’t impose leaders upon us and this must stop henceforth.

My direct question to H.E. The Vice-president, Hon. Nangolo Mbumba is, why is he allowing the Goliath splinter group to be part of the National Government Negotiation Team, led by Hon. Zed Nguvarue. Now, the next critical and challenging question is why doesn't he allow all the other splinter groups, viz. from Vaalgras, Blou-wes and perhaps Gibeon. H.E. Mbumba must allow or disallow all of them.

Our bitter past has re-affirmed that the recognized authorities don’t co-operate, co-ordinate and give feedback to the unrecognized factions. Subsequently, members of the break-away groups and splinter groups don’t benefit from anything coming from the Central Government.

We have learned disheartening lessons from the Namibia-Germany Special Initiative Program (NGSIP), the Resettlement Program, the veterans applications and the provision of water by the Directorate: Rural Water Supply etc.

So, I concur wholeheartedly with the German Government, who reportedly says that no money will end up directly into the blood painted hands of the Government. They should just stick to their guns. We must apply the principle of what's good for the goose should be good for the gander.

The perennial excuse that the Government does not have money today has nothing to do with us. The corrupt looters are known and should just be brought to book without fear or favour. They shouldn't be permitted to go with impunity.
