Great fun with PGA Championship alliance

A total of 39 players turned out to play in two competitions at once last Saturday at the Windhoek Golf and Country Club.
Besides the individual stableford, there was also a betterball with each player’s score being added to that of a professional playing in the USPGA Championship held at Baltusrol, New Jersey.
Despite a very strong and unpleasant wind making play at the Country Club difficult, some players produced excellent scores and all had great fun working out exactly how many points they could add to that of their chosen professional and at which holes.
At the end of the day, novice player Paul Grobler got the sums right and managed to win both the betterball, with Branden Grace (RSA), and the individual stableford.
The winners were as follows:
BETTERBALL
1 Paul Grobler with Branden Grace – 52 points
2 Aggie Dodds with Henrik Stenson – 42

INDIVIDUAL
1 Paul Grobler – 40 points
2 Aggie Dodds – 38
3 Wilfred Lohmann – 37

WALVIS BAY
Morne Roux and Johnny Borges romped home as the PSG golf day held at the Walvis Bay course last weekend drew an average field of 38 players.
Jaans Stander and Piet Fox came in a close second in the betterball event. Reports from the course were that it was Morné that played out of his sock on the day and that Johnny only had to help here and there. Third prize was won by Wilma van der Merwe and Bertie Coetzee.
There were only two two-clubs on the day and these were recorded by Herman Smidt and Piet Burger. The weekly jackpot of N$500 for 12 or better points on four randomly drawn holes was again not won.
Niel Swanepoel and Jo-Marie Steyn represented PSG on the day and Niel played a round with the guys.
This coming weekend is the Magic Discounters sponsored day and takes the format of a betterball.
• The Race to Cape Town is getting close to boiling point and any one of 12 players are still in striking distance. Frans Grobler leads the pack on 217 points, followed by Chris Bothma (190) and Gunter Heitmann on 185.
The Tsumeb Sages takes place on the 12th and 13th. Good luck to those travelling and a safe trip.

OMEYA
Last Saturday Omeya welcomed back Dulux for round 2 of the Dulux betterball series.
Fourty-eight betterball teams participated on the day with visitors as far as Mariental supporting this great initiative. With winds gusting up to 50 km/h playing conditions were tough, but the husband and wife combination of Riaan and Jane Liebenberg made it looks easy out there, coming in with a massive 48 points.
Dulux is the title sponsor of this brand new series of four events and have also sponsored two overall prizes. Teams need to play in a minimum of three events to qualify for the overall prizes. The best three scores will count towards the overall order of merit.
The leaders on the Order of Merit after two rounds are Frikkie and Anecia le Grange and Riaan and Jane Liebenberg, with both teams on 86 points. Herewith the results:
1 Riaan & Jane Liebenberg on 48 points
