Hedimbi celebrates his birthday in style
Businessman and farmer, Jonas Hedimbi handed over medals and certificates of recognition to 80 fellow businesspersons during the celebration of his 65th birthday held at the Efidi Anglican Church in the Ohangwena Region on Saturday.
Chief George Nelulu, Ohangwena governor Usko Nghaamwa, Frans Aupa Indongo, Malakia Nakuumba, Israel Jona, Eliaser Haimbili, Ismael Shailemo and Hafeni Kandjala were issued with certificates for their contribution towards economic development of the country.
Addressing the event on behalf of the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), Tomas Iindji described Hedimbi as one of indigenous business personalities who have put Namibia on the map of world business and/or trade.
“You are especially remembered in this country for your inspired work, which helped to create the wonderful economy of our country,” Iindji told Hedimbi.
He added that Hedimbi is not an ordinary businessman or entrepreneur, but rather an extraordinary business guru and mentor who will remain a part of the economic and political struggle history of the country.
According to Iindji, Hedimbi had a remarkable career and touched infinite lives through his many decades of service.
Hedimbi started his business career in 1972 by selling special male trousers called “omanya” at that time, as well as Otto Mühr hats between Swakopmund, where he was employed, and Windhoek.
He now owns various business outlets under “Special” as the trading name in the northern towns such as Ondangwa, Eenhana and Okongo and is at the same time a commercial farmer at Okoloti and Tsumeb in the Oshikoto Region.
Hundreds of prominent businesspersons and farmers from all over Namibia attended Hedimbi’s birthday celebration.
