Home Owners lose Omeya Members Cup title
Golf
The “gees” and banter between the two teams at last weekend''s annual Omeya Members Cup was simply electrifying.
Play started on Friday at 12:00 with the betterball format. The Members team managed to pocket 5 out of the 6 points and went into the Saturday foursomes with a 5 point lead.
The foursomes was a closer affair with the Members team accumulating 4 out of 6 points and requiring only 3.5 points out of 12 in the afternoon singles to lift the trophy.
This was not such an easy task and the winning point only came in match 7 between Adri Vermeulen and Regardt Kruger.
The final result was Members with 15.5 points versus Home Owners with 8.5 points.
Omeya Golf Club management would like to thank all the spectators who came out to support and also a special word of thanks to the two sponsors, King Price Namibia and Castle Lite.

Heidi van Niekerk was there to defend her title, but it was Celonika Robinson who showed determination over the two days to shoot a score of 175 to become the ladies champion.

A big field of 42 players turned out to play the Walvis Bay course in a whole different format – the club''s first-ever Par 3 competition.
Jaco de Wit was the driver behind the event and together with Herman Smidt and Wayne Hart they managed to set the course up from different angles and tee boxes. After an early hiccup, the players took to the course and it was all systems go to be the first par 3 champion.
When the dust settled (wind and sand spoilt the latter part of the afternoon) there were a few guys in contention, but it was Gert Olivier junior who received the trophy from club captain Herman Smidt for the best gross of 56. Emile Vilbert won the best net on 50.25, with Sergio Figueiredo in second place on 51.5.
Other prize-winners on the day were André Burger, Willie van Zyl, Chris Tempo, Wouter van Wijk and Frans Grobbelaar. The “most golf” prize was closely contested before being won by Deon Kleynsmith.
This weekend is the Toyota individual stableford, but with a hidden partner which will be drawn after the round.
• The Race to Cape Town is drawing to a close and it looks like a one-horse race with Frans Grobler (415) a good few points ahead of the field. Second is Chris Bothma (351), followed by F. Champion senior on 343 and Pieter van Aarde on 339.
