Husab marathon draws record attendance

The third annual Husab marathon which took place recently at the Husab access road close to Arandis had the highest number of participants to date.
More than 800 people entered the different categories making this year’s event the biggest since inception.
A jovial Nelson Kandungua was the overall winner of the Husab Marathon and finished the 42 km race in a time of 2 hours 13 minutes and 1 second. He walked away with a cash prize of N$10 000.
Leena Ekandjo from Nampol won the ladies open 42 km race, finishing in 2 hours 57 minutes and 41 seconds.
Winners of the 10 km races are Kefas Kandjaslili Kandjaslili as well as Ottilie Kaunapawa Aimwata.
The event also included a five kilometre fun run and walk category for amateurs.
Speaking at the event, the governor of the Erongo region and patron of the Husab marathon, Mr Cleophas Mutjavikua, stated the importance of the marathon.
He said it creates a platform to integrate Swakop Uranium (SU) employees and their families into the communities of the Erongo region and the country as a whole.
Mutjavikua added that SU, through the Swakop Uranium Foundation, assists the national agenda priority issues of the government through employment creation and social responsibility projects.
